The name of the city comes from the mountain "Mont Royal". The centre of the city has a lot of modern high buildings. In the south east there is the old centre; 'Le Vieux-Montréal'; the historical city centre with among them the "Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal" and the old city hall.
